Street Fighter V looks a bit incomplete..
I came across this post on Rock, Paper, Shotgun, about the plan for Street Fighter V. It looks.. interesting. As in may you live in interesting times.
So, we’re getting two player lobbies at release, no full story, and then adding a character a month? (Starting with Alex in March along with challenge/trials and 8 player lobbies in March… and adding characters (Guile, Ibuki, Balrog, Juri, and Urien) in monthly installments every month from April to September, except for June. All of this will be available either with in game money or microtransactions.
So color me confused why the game is being released now. Right now, it looks like a five-star restaurant dish, that needed to stay in the oven a bit longer. Undercooked, if you will.
I think the plan with characters is to follow an esport model and keep dropping new dudes to shake up the game. That much, I think, is defensible: shipping with an “incomplete” roster was intentional. I’m much more concerned about the fact that 8-player lobbies and command trials won’t be ready til March (and I’m kind of astonished that the ‘cinematic story mode’ exists at all, since it’s basically Capcom snaking the model Netherrealm has been using since MK/DCU).
